1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The King had left his palace in the midst of a blue attack
Played 3 matches in the FA Cup and finally we gave them a whack,
Two decades before the leaving of Shankly had shocked us to the core
But when Kenny left it was the final nail we couldn’t take anymore.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Ronnie Moran took over one of our back room guys
Mixed results followed while we sought a manager so wise,
Who could carry on the red tradition that Shankly had proudly started
And to our club Graeme Souness returned from Rangers he had parted.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Determined to succeed and do things his own way
Shaking up the team the fans had no say,
Hysen, McMahon, Staughton and Beardsley
Made way for names we had never even heard of.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Beaten by Bolton in the FA Cup, a second division side
And Spartak Moscow defeated us to dent our last drop of pride,
We saw no improvement and Souness finally resigned
Now we looked to the last of the Shankly boys and with that Roy Evans signed.

But our team was lacking skill some players where shown the door,
The following year we gained some pride
When we beat Bolton Wanderers our smiles we couldn’t hide.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Lost to United in the FA Cup, we lacked that certain something
But Michael Owen was around the corner giving the crowd cause to sing,
We then had the privilege of Gerard Houllier joining the ranks
For his part in World Cup 98 France offered their thanks.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Looking abroad we strengthened our team
And brought some talent closer to home to live the dream,
Now Evans had left and Houllier became the boss, the team took their time to gel
But through the good times and the bad to win the Premiership only time will tell.
