Hopelessness of a Goalkeeper

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The ball is in the net and the keeper
Looks to officials in black
His ardous journey just got steeper
As they cut the poor man no slack.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 He becomes the loudest one
His paradise has been penetrated
After the ref he is sure to run
As the goal is celebrated.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Argues fiercely as the crowd listen in
Hearing the keeper battle in vain
Looking likely that he’s not going to win
Growling lungs highlight the pain.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Explodes through body language
Which everyone can understand
A victim of a sudden brutal vanquish
Begging for mercy with open hands.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 The linesman doesn’t change his mind
Despite the screaming protestations
From the goalkeeper stuck in a bind
He’s in no mood for commiserations.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 All the shouting and the goal still counts
He shakes his head in disbelief
A tragedy bestowed and pressure mounts
A goal at the other end would come as sweet relief.
