I Saw A Game Some Time Ago!!!

This game was on the telly
As the scorer of a goal just scored
Just stood and rubbed his belly

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 In Africa the game was
A riot then did start
As the teams fans
Who had conceded the goal
Tore the stadium apart

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 A country who were starving
Took umbrage at that gesture
As riots took place and soldiers came
The rest is pure conjecture

Maybe, I cannot say for sure
But one thing that I did see
Was sheer unadulterated hatred
Of the kind I’d never seen before!!!

Notes

This was a few years ago, a match between two African countries.
I can’t remember the names but one of them was in the middle of a highly publicised famine where a lot of people died. This game was played as an African Nations qualifier or part of a World Cup campaign, anyway the scorer just stood in front of the opposition fans and rubbed his stomach after scoring, the result of this stupid gesture was sheer pandemonium as things just went crazy. The hatred as players, officials and fans just lost control was frightening to watch and I’ve never forgotten it to this day, when there is another Live Aid to have a go at resolving Third World famine which never seems to ease up.
