It’s only a game.

Try telling them It’s only a game
Starry eyed youngsters dreaming of fame
Obsessive parents,encouraging shouts
Egotistical coaches and vulture like scouts.
The beautiful game, the desire to play
The stars of tomorrow
The kids of today.
Academys beckon the cream of the crop
One foot on the ladder
That leads to the top.
Talented youngsters on every street
Wearing replica shirts and a ball at their feet.
But in time most dreams will fade away
In life there are other games to play
But a few shall find that elusive fame
In the not so much beautiful
But highly lucrative game.
