3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Well you’ve heard of Dracula
The goalie afraid of crosses,
But have you heard of manager Jim
Who couldn’t keep track of his losses?

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 It started against Charlton
We lost four-one in the away game;
Then it was nil-four at home,
And more of the same.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Into the transfer market
Jim was quickly bound
But he bought bloody Dracula
For a million pound!

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Jim also decided in his wisdom
To strengthen the attack.
We ended up with Forward Frank
An attacking left back.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Well you can guess
What was coming next.
The crowd at home
Were sorely vexed!

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 United with their ace right winger
Were first to visit ‘Town.
He was duly accorded
The freedom of the ground.

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 From the wide open spaces
Behind the forward left back
The crosses terrified Dracula
And peppered the net!

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 Five nil down
Jim lost count before half-time,
But at least he’s remembered
… In the lines of my rhyme!!

Notes

After seeing the Football Poets in action in 1996, I was inspired to “create” three very modest pieces of my own whilst running over the lanes and commons around Stroud. Stuart still reminds me and encourages me to submit them to the Net – so here’s piece three of three …
I started going to see Leicester City play in the late fifties when I was about 10 years old; although I hardly see them live now, I’ve been a supporter ever since … this piece, however, is pure whimsy and nothing to do with Leicester whatever!
