held together, by sticky tape or ties…

we learned to make our own – ‘garments for goals’
ganseys, pullovers, sweaters, crew necks, v necks, turtle necks, parkas, hoodies, snoods
the grounded bundles, a barometer of fashion
effectively, whatever was top layer when running out the door

so woolly decked, with woolly turnout, we’d split into two teams
usually, it was the ball-bringer, who’d get first pick
followed by divisions of opinion, as to which team was ‘unfair’, or ‘loaded’
so there’d be swaps, trades, transfers, substitutions before kick-off
‘teamsheets’ trashed, then captains consenting

ball, space, combatants, all present
all we needed
were doors for scores….
