Thanks for the Waterford crystal,
Presented to Shelbourne today.
It’s really so kind
That you bore us in mind –
I’m quite sure it will go on display.

It catches the light like a rainbow,
And sparkles like any fine pearl.
Its translucent lustre
Does more than pass muster,
‘Tis fit for a lord or an earl.

I don’t mean to sound too ungracious,
And please note all the things that I’ve said.
And thanks for the gift,
It will give us a lift,
But I’d rather have three points instead.
