Memory On The Wayne?

In nineteen hundred and fifty eight
Queen Victoria was truly great.
With a scorching drive at Hampden Park
The Empress of India made her mark.
Her goalscoring record was second to none
It’s strange to think that her record’s now gone
Overtaken by Elizabeth R
Who has captained England near and far.
She’s been our leader through thin and thick.
A majestic penalty did the trick.
But just as important, in its own way
Is the record that tumbled on the previous day
For the all-time record of Bobby C
Was beaten by Wayne from Wavertree
(Or is it Toxteth? I don’t recall).
Excited thousands thronged the Mall
A saluting major led his troop
As a flight of Red Arrows looped the loop.

PS
I think my memory serves me well
But at my time of life you just never can tell.
