Mill Road School – 1970-74

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Mill Road school doesn’t look much like Anfield
But upon its playing fields
I copied Stevie Heighway’s breathless runs
Bossed the game like Tommy Smith
Scored Keegan goals from Toshack’s telepathy
The Storeton woods a terrace rocking
Childhood dreams
Like Big Alec Lindsay’s Bold left foot
As sure as certain as
Childhood passing.

Notes

Notes:
*Mill Road School – now called Higher Bebington Junior School Mill Road Bebington
Thanks are due to 3 outstanding teachers:

2nd Year – Mrs Morris who brought to life Charlotte’s Web and told us off for teasing the school cat Milly!

3rd Year – Mrs Whittaker who encouraged me to follow my heart with the pen and not to worry about the fact that as far as math was concerned I was numerically dyslexic.

4th Year – Mrs Sutton whose devotion to “Cloughie” expressed itself in the fact she wore a green trackie top just like his and who coached the school sports teams; 2 of which (netball and rounders) I was proud to be a member of.
