Minute’s Silence
¶ 1

Some people say
Football is about
Individuals congregating
For mass celebration
Of belonging and emotion
Driven by a primal need
To come together
Communality
A loud and boisterous statement
That Society exists.

There are links
To be made between
This weekly match phenomenon
And the Princes Diana one
Which saw so many people throng
Together,
To state in silent dignity
That people do need to come and be
Together.
And that the Cult of the Individual
With its Capitalist denial of Society
Might, just might,
Be coming to a close.

Surely, that’s worth
A Minute’s Silence.
