Would that Kafka had heard my plea,
And ended Homer’s Odyssey,
But Elgin’s marbles, that impenetrable wall,
Prevented Smetena from ere receiving the ball.
O Dvorak, come, give us a chance,
Run the midfield like a Slavonic dance,
And Hrabal with your words like lace,
Put a forty-yard ball to open up some space.

Skvorecky, Kundera and Klima too,
When we needed a goal, where were you?
