As floodlights shine on muddy slime
You swirl hot bovril in yer mouth
The freezing cold has taken hold
Its not like this down South!

An iron bar to lean on
Is your only friend
Your goalie won’t come for crosses
Your fullbacks can’t defend!

The rain is belting down so hard
You can barely see the pitch
As fat directors sit snugly in their box
Oh to be so rich!

The ball sticks to the gluey pitch
It never hardly moves
The players run without it
As control of it they lose!

Your clothes are soaked
You’ve had enough
You seek shelter from the rain
The away end has no cover
So you’ll have to watch the game!

Your a long way from home
Dripping wet and three nil down
You should be indoors
With the one you love
In your dressing gown!

Why do we put ourselves through this?
Its really very strange

With proper working brains!

All that angst and hardship
Of cherished away games!!!
