Ok, ok,
So maths is not my strong point
And hopefully this is the last game I miss this season
For me, being without football is like treason

And yes, I attended skool
But in body only
For in my mind
I was the Georgie Best of Madeira

I’d gaze out of the window, past the orange groves
To the dusty pitches where I’d peel away from markers
Give them the pip, for every time I’d zip
Past them and score

And ever since, all I’ve wanted to do is play –
I can count well enough
To recognise all the zeros in my pay packet
But money will never be my strait-jacket

Injury and suspension are my enemies
My opponents are mere bollards
For fame is my spur
And all I really want, really really want, is to hear the fans purr!

Today, we say goodbye to Olé Gunnar Solskjaer
Giving him a rousing and deserving
Send-off
(More deserving than mine anyway – yes, I’m still bitter)

And acknowledge the temporary return
Of a past master, Roy Keane
A man whose block was more consummate
than a writer’s lost muse
A man whose shots, were more potent
than a doctor’s jabs
A man whose devotion to his master
is mirrored by Triggs
And a man who right now,
could really use Ryan Giggs!
