Relegation Blues

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I am a Norwich City Fan and quote from a poem ‘what I wrote’ two years ago:
“One’s team is in League One”

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 As you probably know, we’re not there now, so take heart and keep hope…

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 There is a cure for the relegation blues
Once the new season starts you’ll see lots of clues
New grounds to visit, enjoy and explore
Where the ‘washroom’ is a hole in the floor

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Your team will be a bigger fish
In the Johnstone Paint Trophy for the ultimate finish
In the FA Cup for the 2nd round
An extra chance for a win to be found

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 There’s plenty of gloom and not much cash
A new challenge awaits, give it a bash
You’ll be toughing it out in League One
It’s nothing to fear, and you will have some fun

Notes

Relegation is no laughing matter and I’m not trying to make light of it. As a Norwich City fan, I’ve been there, worn out the t-shirt. But after you and your team have struggled, for years in some cases, same old ditto -it can freshen the spirits to be jettisoned out for a while. It feels strange at first, there you are, standing there in your shiny quite-new replica shirt from the top flight and now you’re facing the streetwise, financially-denied toughnuts. There’ll be blood, sweat and tears (mostly yours) but you’ll rediscover the connection and black humour of why you love football in the first place.
Enjoy the real game, where it’s about divots not divas – you’ll be back.

For fans of all teams relegated and teetering this season.
