Relegation Dogfight

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Slow season-long haemorage of hope
to this sad suburban stadium: shades of Hades!
Heavy-shouldered stewards shove supporters in.
Squeezed inside the Shed, surveilled, surrounded,
sharpened senses surge as seconds slip away.
Hard shouts, harsh sky, head-slicing sensations.
One shot: our heart staked by a single strike.
Who survives such small horrors surely
savours humanity’s submerged sorrows.

Notes

Here’s hope for everyone who has ever been relegated. We got promoted back the next season, and went and gave their lot a good thrashing last season!
