Reverend Arthur

My husband Arthur, a fine man,
as well as being a football fan,
is a Vicar and a Poet too,
especially after a drink or two..
(I’m not sure if ‘too’ and ‘two’ do rhyme,
but it will have to do this time)…

He follows Corinthian-something or other
and often argues with his brother,
who supports Old Etonians of late,
since buying their tie at our Church fete..
(To me this does not seem quite right..
in my opinion he is not too bright)…

We live down here in Lower Merkin
and some Saturdays, when not working,
Arthur takes the train to Tolworth town,
to watch his team at their home ground..
(They are called Corinthian-something or other
next time she visits I’ll ask his mother)…

Now I’d better go and cook some food,
though I like to write when in the mood,
Arthur jots down verses after tea,
he does it all quite casually..
(Perhaps his team is something-Corinthian,
I’ll ask his other brother Ian..
‘Corinthian’ and ‘Ian’ don’t really rhyme,
I will try to do better next time)…
