SEMI FINAL V SPURS IN ’87
DAVID ROCASTLE WAS SENT FROM HEAVEN
UP POPPED ROCKY IN THE DYING MINUTE
HE SAW THE GOAL AND PUT THE BALL IN IT
AND WHO COULD FORGET HIS RUNS DOWN THE RIGHT
ONE OF THE GREATS TO WEAR RED AND WHITE
IN GEORGIE GRAHAM’S DEFENSIVE YEARS
HE WAS THE SPARK WHO GAINED ALL THE CHEERS
HE HAD SILKY SKILLS AND COULD TURN ON A PENNY
BUT THEY WEREN’T HIS ONLY QUALITIES, FOR THE MAN HAD MANY
A HARDWORKING ATTITUDE TO ‘NEVER SAY DIE’
ON AND OFF THE FIELD SUCH A GENUINE GUY
AND EVEN WHEN THINGS WEREN’T GOING HIS WAY
HE WOULD COME IN AND WORK DAY AFTER DAY
WHEN HE EVENYUALLY LEFT IT WAS A SAD FAREWELL
BUT LEEDS CAME IN AND GEORGE DECIDED TO SELL
HIS FORM FOR THE GUNNERS WAS NEVER REPEATED
HOWEVER HE NEVER LET HIMSELF BE DEFEATED
WHEN I HEARD OF HIS CANCER IT MADE ME FEEL SAD
BUT NOBODY THOUGHT IT WOULD END UP THIS BAD
FOR ROCKY HAD THREE KIDS AND A BEAUTIFUL WIFE
AND I’M SURE THAT HE BATTLED WITH COURAGE AND STRIFE
BUT HE LOST HIS FIGHT AND PASSED AWAY
ON MARCH 31ST, DERBY DAY
THE GOONERS WERE SHOCKED AND TEARS WERE SHED
ARSENAL AND SPURS FANS HUNG THEIR HEADS
FOR ONE WHOLE MINUTE YOU COULDN’T HEAR A SOUND
AS MEMORIES OF ROCKY WENT AROUND THE GROUND
DEDICATIONS AND TRIBUTES FOLLOWED THIS GAME
NO ONE WILL FORGET HIS EVERGREEN NAME
OR HIS ENTHUSIASM FOR LIFE, HIS SKILL AND HIS ZEST
‘COZ ONLY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG, AND ROCKY WAS THE BEST
