Rushes in the Month

Counting down the number of matches,
Checking times and schedules.
Where will I be at that time of day?
Where will I be the day after?
Plan ahead and think of future days
Barring thoughts of calamities.
Enjoy the indifference of other matches
How easily they can be watched
Without emotions being bumped and boiled.
Four years seems an awful long way away
When there is a chance right here in front of you.
The World Cup month distorts
And in memories it finds a lasting place.
Some have gone home already
With bold dreams forgotten
And flags draped over hunched shoulders
Yet for the rest the rush continues,
The rush for the matches to begin
And the rush as the matches end
Into another four slow years.
