Saturdays aren’t the same without football

It’s that time of the year
when I don’t know what to do
I’m usually off to a match
and after having a pint or two.
The sport on the telly is boring
and shopping is even worse
thankfully there’s football poets.org
so I can write about it in verse.
I’m already thinking about next season
and can’t wait for the fixture list
my friends and family say I’m barmy
and even call me a masochist.
But only football fans understand
the withdrawals I’m going through
I’d rather be at a match somewhere
than lying on a beach in Majorca or Corfu.
So roll on the next football season
and put me out of my summer misery
and although they put me through it
I’ll never stop following my beloved Coventry !
