A challenger has come forth
In this league we’re all contesting,
Bohs have made the title race
A lot more interesting.

A great result for the Eircom League,
The gap is down to five.
Fair play to Bohs, that Oman strike
Has kept the league alive.

We could have been eight points ahead,
We could have been eleven,
I’m sure today that Stephen Kenny’s
Up in seventh heaven.

The other teams are thrilled that there
Is still a title race –
No longer are they merely
Battling hard for second place.

The question now is whether Shels
Can cope with all the tension,
And whether Bohs and Pats and Cork
Can all stay in contention.

If Shels had won, the gap could well
Have turned into a chasm,
But any nerves out there today,
It’s Patsy Fenlon has ‘em.

But personally I cannot share
The ubiquitous elation,
The interest that has been renewed
Is scarcely consolation.

Bohs beat Shels and I cannot
Begin to raise a smile.
Why can we never win the league
By that proverbial mile?
