I’m like a big cuddly bear
coming out of hibernation
a short sharp one admittedly
with this being a world cup summer
but every day without football
is like a blackhole beckoning

I’m like a fidgety meerkat
emerging into the sunlight
looking up into a Sky full of stars
and still in awe and wonderment
before the reality of woefulness descends
and sets me scurrying away in shock

I’m like a prickly hedgehog
uncurling testily from the undergrowth
disturbed by Wombles and canaries
by robins, swans, foxes and tigers
by bluebirds, bees, black cats and bulls
and the shaggy-maned tyrannosaurus Savage

I’m like a cute little bunny
bounding from my bolthole
nose twitching with excitement
hopping from foot to foot
unable to contain myself
with all this over-stimulation

I’m like a cold blooded snake
slithering smoothly from a sunken cell
testing the air with my tongue
promptly alert to any danger
and all ready to strike
quicker than Torres!

I’m like all the above
only even more excited
even more nervous, more worried, more twitchy
than any furry creature in hibernation
as I join the hysterical hordes
all across this hyped up nation!
