Shattered Dream.

An old school pal Tucker Brown
Signed schoolboy forms for Mansfield Town
And our headmaster Mr Snell
Shook Tucker’s hand and wished him well
Proud P.E. teacher Harold Price
Offered Tucker sound advice
Stick in lad, do as your told
Those Mansfield streets are paved with gold
And so his mother packed his bags
And off he went to join the Stags.
He cleaned the boots of senior pro’s
Enjoyed the highs, endured the lows
But three years later still just a lad
Shattered dreams were all he had
In his reserve team debut a seasoned pro
With a scything tackle caught Tucker low
And on a muddy pitch he writhed in pain
He was never to play the game again.
And in the summer of Sixty Two
Tucker came back home to stay
His left leg encased in plaster
He still carries the scars today
But those scars are all superficial
Relegated to the back of his mind
Yet he shall always remember with affection
Those schoolboy forms he once signed.
