Golden goals
and pink elephants for the final?
Hey, that’s an idea!
Quick!
Paint those sponsored goalposts
shades of gold and pink
and kit those teams out
in ermine and mink
and boots of a suitable Portuguese hue
studded, of course,
with a ruby or two …
No?
Perhaps not.
It won’t make any difference to the score sheet
and the fans in the pubs have all gone –
We were beat.

Notes

England seem to be only 3 or 4 players short of a being a world class squad. It’s a pity that the likes of Ryan Giggs can’t play for them. Think of all the Scottish, Welsh and Irish players not eligible to play over the last 40 yrs and all the trophies that a United GB team could have won.
