I was 5 years old when I saw that first match,
Stadium overcrowded with fans, flags and clapping hands,
Some say its just a game,
Its the beautiful game

Football not touched by the devil investors,
Passion was what fuelled the players not money,
It wasn’t about record signings and big costing names,
It was about the beautiful game

Leagues separated by deeper pockets and bigger wallets,
Fans becoming just a noise from the stands,
Thats not what football should be about,
Its the beautiful game

Putting on the shirt used to mean something,
Wearing the club crest with passion and pride,
Nowadays its about seeing the readies roll in,
Where’s the beauty in that?

Football’s passion has been crushed by bank notes and dollar signs,
There was a time when a community inflamed a club,
I felt like I meant something when I took that seat,
I felt like the team needed me

Nowadays that seat isn’t about the beautiful game,
That ticket goes into the back pocket of a nameless owner,
Has the beauty of football been lost?
Has money succeeded passion?

Now on your 5th birthday you have a ticket
With your shirt, scarf and socks,
I can see your passion,
The beautiful game can be rescued back to its loving times
It can be saved by the next generation
