The Beautiful Game

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Eleven men surround the pitch, eleven hearts united.
One goal they have in mind, one frame in sight;
dispel their doubters; steal the ball, the day,
Challenge the opposition.
They will wrestle victory
from their enemy:
Ignorance and fear

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Shadows dribble left to right, bone on bone collides
Sweat seeps from unsheltered pores,
On to unprepared skin,
naked under the intense sun.
Running, running with the ball
aim,trip, fall
yet score.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The crowds appluad, seeing no more ghosts, but men
Rich in courage, full of love
for the beautiful game of life.
Waiting to be embraced,
accepted, acclaimed
as worthy of dignity,
acknowledged humanity;
afforded respect.

Notes

This poem is dedicated to Albino United. Through ignorance and fear, Albino’s in Tanzania have been viewed as objects of myth to be hunted and killed. They are using football to dispel the myths and break down barriers. Follow links at http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/5470242/the_beautiful_game.html?cat=14
