The Celtic Teddy-bear

You’d think that anything that rhymed with ‘gers
would be rejected
But we gave him that Celtic Teddy Bear
And were infected
With a sadness that we could not shake

And placed it gently by his side
(along with those other signs
Of a life that was an up and down ride
of laughter and tears and emotional mines)
And before we leave we can only take

One more look at this Celtic man
As he lay in peace
And we cried as only a child can
