The Flowering of Cheltenham Town FC

In their first spring
The seeds of youth grew slow,
Grew strong,
That season of perennial learning:
McCann, Finnigan making midfield domain,
The back four shoring up
Gaps in the wall,
And the search
For a holy striker.

Their second spring came
As late as the May sunshine,
The final flowering in Cardiff:
As Guinan crossed
And Vincent, Odejayi stretched to connect,
The ball bounced twice –
Mildenhall rooted to the spot –
And a sea of red and white erupted
When the ball hit the net.
