Notes

Stanley Matthews would have been a hundred years of age on the 1st of February.
I was just a kid when my dad talked about him endlessly saying he was the best ever player,and he was so tricky and would turn defenders inside out.
I’ve seen film of him and without doubt he would be just as good today as he was back then. He was that fit he was still playing at fifty and he was a proper role model and coached kids when he finally hung up his boots. We hear the word legend used a lot these days but in Stan’s case it is a word that sums him up perfectly.
