The Road to Promotion

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 This joint was beat up, going bust and run down
Then in breezed some new guys from way outta town
High rollers from Ireland – who weren’t going to lose
They made Bob an offer he couldn’t refuse
Just one step remained now to lift all the gloom
Niall called a meet, just he and Roy in a room
So ended the feud, setting wheels in motion
Off down the track, on The Road to Promotion

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The word went out – get Caribbean muscle
So three dudes sashay in and start to hustle
Carlos the Jackal, he can slice you two ways
Big John the Hit Man, better do what he says
Yorkie’s the lover, so he’s smooth and so slick
And becomes the gang’s heart – makes it start to tick
Too chilled and laid back? Don’t mess with that notion
They’re cool black cats – on The Road to Promotion

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Gordon thought he had him, but Tony took flight –
Fled over the border, at dead of midnight
The South London Gang were too lazy and thick
Thought cash and bright lights were gonna do the trick
But Roy hit them hard – and he hijacked da kid
‘Pa Dew’ never knew what it was that Roy did
Cool and determined – no hint of emotion
Roy gets his man – on The Road to Promotion

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Now the party begins – the boys start to shout
At some other time, Roy may have snuffed it out
– Eyes of an assassin, hooded like a hawk,
Other noises surrender when he starts to talk –
But for now he is still, just smiling slightly
Lets them have some fun, as they’ve earned it rightly
So Press boys flash bulbs, all kindsa commotion
Sweet journey’s end, of the Road to Promotion.

Notes

I watched the gangster movie ‘The Road to Perdition’ and it made me think how Roy Keane’s cold, commanding stare is almost like that of a powerful gangster, so…
