The Sardine Cup Final

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 On Celtic’s route to the ’37 Scottish Cup Final
They had to overcome the likes of East Fife, Clyde & Motherwell,
Jimmy McGrory’s Cup campaign of an impressive 10 goals
Led the Celtic to face Aberdeen, ‘The Black & Gold’.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 A crowd of 144,000 crammed into Hampden Park
As supporters climbed the walls and rushed at the gates,
Willie Maley was eager for his 15th Cup win
As Celtic took to the field led by Willie Lyon.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The Celtic supporters stood on this dull day
Wondering if this would be the last Final that McGrory would play,
But he played his part and welcomed the roar
As he was instrumental in the goal that led Johnny Crum to score.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The Kings End of the ground was in full song
Until Aberdeen leveled the game through their forward Armstrong,
The game raged on from end-to end
But it was the Celtic faithful who would be singing again.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 The game was decided in the 70th minute
When Willie Buchan placed the ball into the back of the net,
The success of Celtic was applauded by Maley
But it was overshadowed as the last Final for Jimmy McGrory.
