The Wrong Man

Teeth bared, fists clenched,
our hero moves menacingly
towards myopic linesman
who has just flagged for offside.

Hurling expletives, he seems
about to burst before being berated
by peace-keeping team mates
and angry player manager.
¶ 3

Ref’s second yellow met
with more insults
and single finger salutes
as ringer ushered from the pitch.

And this is the problem:
the feisty forward isn’t registered;
the league write to the wrong man
to inform him of his ban.
