There’s Nothing Like BEING There
¶ 1

There’s only one way to watch your team
And that is to BE there
Feeling tension in the air
The ‘goal scored’ party atmosphere
The one win in seven relegation fear
To stand and chant and clap and cheer
When your season is shaped like a pear
The people around you relate and share
You don’t have to worry about what to wear
Replica shirt, hat and scarf – required gear

There’s only one way to watch your team
And that is to BE there
Even if you’re stuck behind a jesters hat
Or a flag the size of a block of flats
Stuck next to the bloke who constantly chats
In front of the fidgetty high-pitched brats
Listening to their dad’s list of boring stats
Groaning when our defence shows cracks
Screaming on every goal bound attack

There’s only one way to watch England
(And that’s from behind the sofa)
And that’s to be in front of the TV
With the cats perched upon your knee
Beside you – snacks and a big cup of tea
The mute button against televised commentary
Five Live Sport radio alive with jollity
No distractions, no queue for a wee
My choice words aimed at the referee
I can sit, lie down or stand on my settee
Watching England at home is the best way for me
