1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 We’ll soon be off to Deutschland,
We’re getting all psyched up.
And certain fans still kid themselves
That we can win the Cup.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 “This time, this time, we’ll get it right.”
Is what I hear them say.
“Make no mistake, we’re at our peak,
We CAN go all the way.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 A goal or three against the Swedes,
With little or no sweat.
While Paraguay and Trinidad
Should not prove tough to beat.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 And once we’ve seen off that lot,
The rest will be plain sailing.
We’ll board a bus straight to Berlin,
And leave the others trailing.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Then on a sultry July night,
We’ll win a hard-fought Final.
We’ll rule the waves, we’ll rule the world,
We’ll tower above our Rivals.”

We’ve heard it all before.
In younger days I shared such views,
But now I’m not so sure.

The future for to see.
You wanna know how things will go
This year in Germanee?

The first match after that.
But have no fear, we’ll lose the next,
And home come scuttling back.

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 The sun’s set on our Empire.
Our Gunboats have been scrapped.
The Prize we seek’s beyond our reach,
For God’s sake, cut the crap!

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 Yes, all you fans who dream and hope,
Take heed of what I say:
Our name’s not written on this Cup.
We WON’T go all the way!
