We’re a Striker Light!

‘We’re a striker light!’
Struck like a bolt
Into the heart of every Boro fan,
Stunned fans
Read again and again,
‘We’re a striker light’
In Bernie’s Bolt
Over red, in bold white.

“Who dares to doubt,” they asked
When the Boro Legend speaks,
After picking themselves of the floor
And many tears,
Feet firmly on the ground
And memory returned,
‘We’re a striker light’? They pondered.
Nightmare of what could have been
If chances were taken
The games buried
Points that should have been banked
Gifted away
Open goals,
Where granny, using zimmer frames
Would have scored,
‘We’re a striker light?’
Bernie, where have you been –
For the last ten years?
