Wordsmirth – tackling writer’s block

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The words have deserted me, vamoosed
I hope they’ve only gone on holiday
or else I’m goosed

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 My muse though, stands steadfast afore me
still beautiful, still desirous, still admired
but the kiln of poetry, hasn’t fired

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 And yet the muse couldn’t really be any stronger
with the World Cup approaching and my team about to do the “Double”
but the words just go floating by –
I feel I must take a hammer to a bubble

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 I study
I try to pluck words from the air
I try to coerce them, to lassoo them
To push them together, but they hide – and still I stare

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Ever yet, my muse stands four square behind me –
see – there they go again – the words playing tricks
pre-allocated and packaged as a “saying” but not conveying
the true dimensions of my beloved

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 For my muse is of rectangular shape
with flags and ninety degree angles
containing a circle, semi-circles, spots and square balls –
the geometry of my addiction

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 But the science of soccer
just won’t translate to printed form
and for this smitten devotee
that’s just not the norm

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Notes lay crumpled
and word docs deleted
Post-its are returned to sender –
more blank than they are tender

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 My digits doth try, both qwerty and quill
But no ‘bon mots’ spill
Out onto page nor screen
No matter how much I watch reds and blues, on top of green

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 I feel so hopeless – the words sneak around me
teasing, taunting
but they’re NOT…
playing ball
