Silence the whistle and the incessant drum,
Bring out his jersey, let the worshippers come.

Inform all the pundits that Football Is Dead.
Put red scarves round the necks of people we love.
Let both the goalies wear black Nike gloves.

He was my Hunt, my Rush, my Barnes and God,
My three-day week (I’m an idle sod),
My tune, my banter, my chant, my song:
I thought that he would play forever: I was wrong.

The floodlights are useless now: put out every one;
Pack up the nets, still Don’t Buy The Sun!
Chop down the goalposts and sweep up the wood.
For football without Origi will never be any good.
