One Decade Ago

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 It was one decade ago today,
In a truly merry month of May.
They’d been playing all year long with guile,
But that day Sky Six were really riled.
Cos their cosy cartel had been broke,
So every other team had hope
That one day they might “do a Leicester” too.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The name is Leicester City Football Club,
We hope you ain’t forgotten them.
Ten years have now elapsed since they were Champs,
At five thousand to one against!
Super super Foxes,
Super super Foxes,
Super duper Foxes,
Who’d’ve thunk?

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Though they’ve dropped down into the Third Tier,
You won’t find them shedding any tears.
As they look back proudly on that day,
They still think they’ve cause to celebrate.
Cos they broke the Big Boys’ stranglehold,
They were fearless, fiery, brave and bold.
And soon or late they’ll surely come back up!

Notes

On 2nd May 2016 Leicester City won the English Premier League, and to celebrate that fact I posted on this website a poem entitled Leicester City Champions. Now to mark the tenth anniversary of that amazing feat, I am posting my third re-working of the Fab Four’s Sergeant Pepper.
