The football sailed over the monastery wall,
Where the monks were all deep in reflection,
But Brother Alphonsus caught sight of the ball,
And carefully watched it’s trajection.
¶ 2

He sprinted, in spite of his sizable girth,
Around the well-kept flowerbed.
And he lifted his foot as the ball fell to earth,
And he skilfully trapped it stone dead.

The religious fraternity stared at each other,
As if bould Alphonsus were drunk,
Forgetting, of course, that their well-rounded brother
Had once been a fine Trappist monk.
