A tribute to Jim Crawford

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Raise a glass, light a flare now for bandy-legged Jim –
Will we ever see someone as loyal as him?
Cajoling the youngsters though business looked grim,
A true Shelbourne hero was bandy-legged Jim.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 May we never forget the almighty guffaw
When he rounded Bohs’ keeper to make it 6-4.
Others grabbed headlines, nobody gave more,
A real Shelbourne legend’s just walked out the door.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 His tackling was fiersome and made grown men quake.
To mix it with Jim was a dreadful mistake!
And sometimes the ref wouldn’t give him a break.
What a difference a pumped-up Jim Crawford would make!

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 ‘Twould be fair to admit he was injury prone.
It’s the way, when your tackling is close to the bone.
His limping off sadly would make grown men moan,
The saddest recurring sight Tolka has known.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 So thanks for the mem’ries, dear bandy-legged Jim
In the hearts of the Redsmen, you’ll never grow dim.
Quick-witted of mind and bow-leggéd of limb,
Raise a glass, light a flare now for Gentleman Jim.

Notes

Former Bohemians, Newcastle United and Reading midfielder Jim Crawford is leaving Shels after 8 seasons at the club. He was the first, and indeed only senior player to re-sign for the club after the tumultuous events of last winter. Very much an unsung hero, Jim was never a crest-kisser, but could read a game beautifully and was a real pro’s pro. Sadly throughout his career he was dogged by injuries which probably stopped him achieving his full potential.
