Me Poetic First Eleven.

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I’d put Gil Scott-Heron, between the sticks
Cos his oulde one played for Celtic
With Vincent* thrown in to the mix
Excelling down the left wing.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 I’d have Auden down the middle
As a scything centre half
With our man Spike at outside right
To make the punters laugh.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Christina with her love live spurned
Would sweep up from the back
With Adrian Mitchell, To whom it may concern
Poetic in attack.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Simon Armitage, cos he’s a Manc
And we must have one of those
With Leonard cos he so morose
Cohen (going) down both flanks.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Brooke would stand there posing
Like a public schoolboy would
Whilst Behan would quote quaint prose
All paying punters understood.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 What if there’s a shoot out?
You’d need a German then
Buckowski or Rilke without a doubt
Would have to take the pens!
