He Did It His Way (Right Up To His Sacking)

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Tony arrived at The Hawthorns looking rather stern and tough
Still, despite our reservations, got us playing lovely stuff.
Promoted to the Promised Land, with a hundred goals to boot!
Our very own Pied Piper, we sang along to Tony’s flute.
But it didn’t go so well against the Big Boys and their money
We still played the game the right way but, you know, it isn’t funny,
Out-playing opponents for long periods of every game
For the end result to be, predictably, pretty much the same.
Still, we stuck by Tony (after all, he’d been the one to take us up
And he’d taken us to Wembley- we’d nearly won the FA Cup!)
When others would have said ‘Au Revoir’ or ‘Thanks, but no thanks
Tone’
We said, ‘Our Tone, we’ll stick by you- you don’t have to stand alone!’
And what was our reward for this impressive show of loyalty?
He transferred himself to Celtic on a bloomin’ Bosman free!
So forgive me, if I cast a wry smile, now they’ve given you the sack-
Next time, try to have a Plan ‘B’ to ‘attack, attack, attack!’
