Am I Missing Something Here?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 At long last the boredom’s broken
A favourite has taken a fall
Dunga’s Brazil are left split wide open
As the Dutch play a new total football.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Maybe now games will be more exciting
Excitement is what us fans need
I couldn’t even be bothered to tune in most nights
Which is somewhat unusual for me.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Something is missing, most stars failed to shine
No new names stepped up to the plate
You can advertise all day, indeed during prime time
But these finals, so far, look dated and staid.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Empty seats stand out in most matches
Despite the “Sold Out’s” of which FIFA bragged
During one game they even imported some fans
Wearing Korean shirts, to lend their support to the lads.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 A perfectly round ball was lauded
As the wonderful new thing to try
I’ve not seen one keeper who caught it
Too scared too, with a sphere that light.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 I can’t hear a word of the commentary
Due to the racket from them damn vuvuzelas’s
Klinnsmann has been ever so complementary
Well he would do its moniker sounds pretty much like Uwe Seeler?

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Anyway enough of that moaning
Lets raise up our caps to the Dutch
Whose worst enemy is usually one of their own
So maybe this time they’ve learnt to shut up?

Notes

I don’t mean to rain on everyone’s parade, but I was really looking forward to this World Cup, but up until today have been extremely disappionted to say the least with the fare served up.

Then Holland beating Brazil lights up the spark that signals I may well be in for a football treat yet. After all Holland under the late great Rinus Michaels, as the history books often tell us:”are the best team never to have won a World Cup”. Below is a little something in praise of the Dutch way of playing a totally different football or voetball as I think they say in Holland.

Total Voetball. By Kevin Raymond.

Where Oranjebloom is taken
And they train on cigarettes
They speak fondly of Wim Rijsbergen,
Ruud Krol and Johnny Rep.

Rinus Michaels taught a system
Total Voetball was it’s name
Johann Cryuff his young assistant
Who would change the World wide game.

With their mullets blonde, boozy nights
Love beads, and cigarettes
The Dutch moved our game to an awesome height
That the purist’s fondly speak of yet.

Peace.

Kev
