Tempers were fraying
As those televised playing
Went at it hammer and tong
While fans in the boozer
Frightened of losing
Loyally sung their team songs.

When a disallowed goal
Put a downer on hopes
Of the team who were trailing behind
A young man worse for wear
Commenced screaming and swearing,
Almost losing control of his mind.

“How can that be offside?”
He pleaded and cried
At the screen that looked down on the bar
Then on sensing despair
Winning fans turned to jeer
In the hope they might push him too far.

When his team stuck one in
Broadly sporting a grin
He was toasting the other side’s woe
Then the boys hit the front
He was some would say blunt
To tell losing fans just where to go.

As the game ebbed and flowed
Amidst more highs and lows
Pubs atmosphere started to rise
Amidst chanting and songs
In the hope they’d spur on
A victorious push from both sides.

With his hopes up on high
He was nervous and tried
Not watching the tense final moments
Then team winning two one
The night’s business done
Saw him strut a la Toons Kevin Nolan!
