Let’s talk Football

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Some people like to talk about politics
or what they’ve watched on T.V.
many go on about their holidays
while others chat about cars or Astrology.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 But me I like to talk about Football
as I’ve got lots of stories to tell
I love telling my son about players
like Greaves, Law, Best, or Colin Bell.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 My father used to be just the same
and I’d take in every word he’d say
” Duncan Edwards was a genius,
the best I’d ever seen play. ”

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 I talk about football in the pubs
and to strangers in a queue
” We won the F.A.Cup you know,
beating Spurs three goals to two. ”

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Once a double glazed salesman came knocking
so I invited him in for a cup of tea
I talked to him for hours about my passion
he’s now a massive fan of Coventry City F.C.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 My doctor reckoned I needed urgent help
and I saw a specialist that very day
but after talking to the psychiatrist about football
he now follows Coventry City home and away.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 People don’t come to visit me anymore
even Jehovah Witnesses walk on by
and when I stroll down the street
people cross over the road, I wonder why ?

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Still they say that talk is cheap
and that may very well be true
but I like talking about football
because that’s what I like to do !

Okay I have exaggerated a lot here because I do like to talk about lots of things, and people do come to visit and stop and chat in the street.
But I have noticed in certain company especially on matchdays, the only topic of conversation is football it’s as if anything else is taboo, no matter what is going on in their lives or in the world.
Some people would call this sad but to us football fans it’s not !
