When Saturday came around.

When Saturdays came, we used to say
‘Howay we’ll gan and watch United play’
And in the Farmers Rest we would meet
A now long lost pub on Percy Street.
And after the match, our next port of call
From St James’ Park to St James’ Hall
Wrestling giants, Men in tights
Wonderful memories from those Saturday nights.
But Saturdays now are not the same
More often than not we have no game
It’s either Monday evenings
Or Sundays at noon
Or whenever the T.V. camera’s
Roll into the toon.
And it is a crying shame
The game has come to this
And those nostalgic Saturdays
We so badly miss.
