Flat Earth Society
¶ 1

Considering Columbus,
and the intervening five hundred years,
and a New World World Cup,
and football’s acquaintance with spheres,
you’d think that the referees
wielding spray cans with expertise
would give an arc at the wall
like they do at the ball,
but with a ten metre radius curve
(not that it would serve
a real purpose;
most walls I’ve been at
being flat, and all that).
Still, it is a pity
if FIFA’s technical committee
having reviewed it
concluded and colluded
to keep more souls
too far back for more goals.
But what if some German mathematician
told Low that a better position
for the men on the ends was nearer?
This idea might be made clearer
and you wouldn’t have to be Ptolemy
to follow me,
but refs would still give yellow cards
for actually being back ten yards.
