The Mighty Magyars

Way back some years ago
in the year of 1953,
came the mighty Magyars
the national team of Hungary.
The press ridiculed their star player
saying “he’s too heavy to play the game”
but that footballer was a genius
and Ferenc Puskas was his name.
Yet England were invincible at home
so the visitors stood little chance ?
yet the Magyars had other ideas
and led the Three Lions a merry dance.
Billy Wright slid into a tackle
Puskas just calmly dragged the ball back,
then smashed into the roof of the net
to end another terrific Hungarian attack.
They just tore England apart
put six goals past keeper Gil Merrick,
it was a surprise the hosts netted three
as they hardly had a kick.
The Magyars had invented total football
a game never witnessed before,
they totally outclassed England
and made them look really poor.
A few months later they met again
and England went looking for a win,
but in Budapest they were thrashed once more
this time seven goals went flying in.
Those Magyars were such an awesome side
and football today still reveres their name,
when back in the year of 1953
they showed the world how to play the game.
