Eleven Ten on Penalties

The Superdrogs went to the dogs,
A harsh way to be losing.
They played ‘gainst Start with lots of heart,
Encounter tough and bruising.
It ended square which was a fair
Denouement to the duel,
But eleven ten on penalties?
How could fate be so cruel?

Margins might be very slight
When games are ebb and flowing.
Should you defend right to the end
With timidness ongoing?
Should you attack and face the flak
For gambling all to risk it?
But eleven ten on penalties?
That really takes the biscuit.

Some games are tight, you’re not sure quite
Which way the fates will turn them.
The chances come and fans look glum
When centre forwards spurn them.
The line is thin ‘twixt loss and win,
‘Twixt blessing and profanity.
But eleven ten on penalties?
That verges on insanity.
