My Auntie June

My Auntie June
Arrived too soon
She wasn’t due today.
She wasn’t impressed
That the house was messed
But still she decided to stay.

My Mum was upset
The house wasn’t clean yet,
She said, “She wasn’t expected.”
“If I thought that today she’d arrive,
For cleanliness I would strive,
And the house would not have been neglected.”

My Dad was not happy too
That she had arrived before she was due,
Although he had a different reason.
There was a game on TV
That he wanted to see,
It was the first game of the football season.

He said to my Mum
“I’ve waited all summer long
For the seasons first game.
Now I have to miss
The game because of this,
And your sisters to blame.”

My Mum said to my Dad,
“Oh that’s not that bad
It’s only a stupid game grown men play.
You should be more concerned with
The state of the place where you live,
And that my sister saw it in such disarray.”

My Dad said, “I couldn’t care less
That this place is a mess.
That doesn’t matter at all.
The only thing that matters to me
Is that her turning up early
Means that I now can’t watch the football.”

My Mum, in despair,
Said, “Well you should care.
After all how would you feel,
If a sibling of yours
Walked through those doors
And a messy house it did reveal?”

They carried on this argument
So then I went
To check on my Auntie June.
She was having a ball
Watching the football
On the television in the living room.

She asked me to join her
And also where my parents were.
I told her I didn’t know where.
She said, “That really is a shame.
This is a really good game
One with your father we should share.”

So we finished watching the game
Whilst my parents tried to blame
Each other for my Aunt coming to soon.
But it wasn’t so bad
And a good time was had.
By me and my Auntie June.
