    between the pitch and concourse
    the seconds ticking on
her dad was early in in the queue
to beat the half time throng
not one to miss a second
    his daughter stood alone
the sound of clanking seats was […]

never thought love could feel this way
never thought I’d hear it or ever see the day
sometimes the words aren’t deep enough to say
    it’s just football love actually

all of that stuff you just love to put m […]

    We’re good at sacking gaffers,
    We are not very nice.
    Just ask Martinez, Silva,
    Ron Koeman, Allardyce.

    And then there’s that Benitez,
    The latest casualtee.
But he was just one big mistake,
    For him no tears […]

    you run the ‘gamut’ Rovers
    upon this hill so high
you never know if rain or snow
    or fog will wander by
and so it was on nights like this
with no wish to be bitter
you know that if it had gone on
    we […]

“Are you – and this is the most important –
    wearing your lucky pants?”

(from ‘Reasons Why You Lost’ by Joe Williams)

    ALWAYS JOE!

But when  it’s cold like tonight at FGR v Mansfield its the Lucky Long […]

I felt as though I were in a poem:
    ‘Afternoons’ by Philip Larkin –
I was off to sheltered accommodation
    To see my mother-in-law (91),
Wishing a ‘Good afternoon’ to residents
Out for their slow afternoon […]

More thoughts on those leaving before the end of the game…and dead on the final whistle…

What really cracks me up is that fans set from home really early and often arrive sometimes an hour ot two hours before […]

The BBC hoped for an upset,
They showed the match live on TV.
But when Kevin Friend blew for full-time,
    The losers were HCFC.

The Tigers they sure made a bright start,
    They scored after forty-five […]

    so true.Sharon..

.in our stand at Forest Green we don’t leave til the whole team and the manager come over.. but the exodus of those  desperate to beat the traffic in the main stand  is unbelievable..

    Yes indeed we have!

I’m just glad you weren’t among the “halftime and the crowd’s gone home”, but had pencil and paper, or notes on a phone, or just jotted – on a knotted hankie, whatever, that you stayed the […]

    Fantastic poem!

From a glass full point of view….

how many pools pundits have hollered “bingo” and toasted those nether regions as they discover that last intoxicating discovery of a matching score-draw!

    😉

    Covid has hit harder
    than a Chopper “intervention”
but though some clubs have tip-toed out
not everyone has been subject to suspension

And it’s not all as mordant
    as a splenetic Morrissey melody
    for there […]

I’d never heard of Forest Green
nor had I glimpsed The Lawn
when I first came to live round here
    just as the Eighties dawned
I’d always loved a bigger club
    at home in London town
but found myself upon thi […]

    Joe, that’s fabulous!

For the first time since the time the song was released, I recently re-watched the video and had a mind to try a poem to match …. having seen this now, I’m glad I didn’t!

Given the season (to be jolly, or not)
    I jingle
    more than I jangle
    so if you were
    to dangle
    a chance
    in front of me….
    I’d be the one
    blocking on the line
    the last ditch
    defender
    rather than
    the pre […]

    When we were losing one-nil,
I thought our Cause was lost.
    The trapdoor was wide open,
We seemed doomed to the Drop.

    When we were trailing one-nil,
I heard a wise man say:
“My son, you know you r […]

if Lily Parr could be here now
    you wonder what she’d say
    as Chelsea took on Arsenal
    on Wembley’s pitch today
    and did our Lily realise

their influence upon the gam […]

We last clashed ten long months ago,
    On Liverpool’s own turf.
And on that day, the whole world knows,
    We Toffees proved our worth.

Two goals scored by the Boys in Blue,
While from the Reds not one. […]
